Seborrhoeic Keratosis

Seborrhoeic Keratosis is a benign, asymptomatic, non-viral proliferation of epidermal cellls, primarily caused by ageing. They are very common especially in mature and elderly clients where they also tend to have more than one.

They can have a rough surface, and range in colour from light golden brown to mid-brown to almost black due to the presence of melanin and can be mistaken for moles.

Thinner blemishes are paler, and traumatised blemishes will appear inflamed. Thinner blemishes usually appear on the cheeks and lower legs.

Sometimes these are referred to as a wart although they are not caused by the same virus and is not infectious or contagious.

The most commonly recognised reason for their appearance is during the natural ageing process on skins that have a predisposition to this type of growth.
